Introducing Redline: Never Waste Your Subscription Usage Again
Redline is a usage-aware scheduler that runs your low-urgency AI jobs with the subscription capacity you already paid for, before it expires.
My Schedule Is Flexible. My Subscriptions Are Not.
I have a weekly limit and a 5-hour limit. Sometimes I get a reset mid-week, sometimes I don't. Some days I don't use AI as much, some days I'm - gasp - away from the computer. My subscription completely ignores all these things, though. It chugs along obliviously.
This made it hard to use everything I was paying for. It's not that I didn't have more work I could do with the subscriptions, but sometimes I wasn't sure if I was going to need that quota for something else. I've always had some low-urgency background jobs that could run whenever, but managing that and trying to burn off any extra capacity was a headache. Especially when the math was knowable. I had more weekly quota left than I had 5-hour windows to spend it in.
What I Built
I got tired of wasting part of my AI subscriptions, so I built Redline, a usage-aware scheduler that works with your existing harness and subscriptions.
You write up low-urgency jobs, decide how aggressively they should schedule against your remaining quota, pick the harness and configuration you want them to run under, and let Redline handle the rest. Run jobs in Claude Code, Codex, Pi, Hermes, and more.
To be clear about what it is doing: Redline spends your allowance, it does not get around it. It just decides when queued work fits inside the limits you already have, and keeps a reserve back so a background job can't eat the quota you wanted for tomorrow morning.
Why This Matters
I've been using it for a month or so now. It's found bugs, updated docs, and knocked out all kinds of little odds and ends that would've ended up as wasted quota otherwise.
Your jobs might look different, but I'm guessing you have some work like this too. Stuff that isn't the most pressing, but is always valuable and certainly beats letting your subscription go to waste.
Get Started
Redline itself is free and open source under Apache 2.0, and it comes with a dashboard that shows your remaining capacity and why each job ran or waited.
It's a menu bar app for macOS 13 or later, and the builds are signed and notarized. Download the latest release, or start with the getting started guide.
